So you got the a new remote obviously the directv remote and you'd love to know how to program direct remote rc73.

Well, this article properly explain the 3 exact methods on how to do this.

There are 3 methods that are available to program this remote, but I prefer the first one:

The Automatic Method is way more easier so let's start with that 

1. Using the Automatic method on how to program your Directv RC73.


This is one method on how to program Directv RC-73

Using the Automatic method is very easy, so try this first and see if it works!


(a) Make sure that the receiver is switched on, or has power supply, and also that it is plugged in the TV.

Whether you use the Genie Receiver HD DVR, or the Genie Mini or Genie Wireless mini, you have to make sure that the hub is plugged in and has power supply.


(b) In this guide we are using the Genie RC-73 so ensure that's what you are using or any other Genie brand like the Genie (RC-72, RC-71 or RC-71B)


Warning: If you are using a non Genie Remote, you can't program it using the Genie Receiver or Geine Mini you may be using!

(c) Turn on your TV: 


Make sure that your TV has power supply and it's turned on, if it's turned on ensure that it's in the input of the Genie Receiver.

That is : if your Genie receiver was set to be in HDMI, switch your Input to HDMI.


You can do this by using the video or Input buttons on your remote.


(d) Point to the Geine Receiver and be close to it

You cannot give instructions to the receiver using the Remote if you are not pointing it to the receiver, as it needs to sense signals from the Remote.

So try to get closer to the Genie receiver and point your remote to it.


(e) Hold your remote and press the Mute and the enter button at the same time!

This will allow the remote and the receiver to connect.

 This should cause the top of your remote to blink a green light twice.

(f) Wait for a Pop-Up on your TV

There should be a confirmation message, which is :
"Your remote is now setup for RF"

If you want to exit this menu, press the SELECT button.


(g) Plug in or Power on the component you intend controlling:

If you want to program a video or an audio component, you have to make sure it's plugged in and it is powered on!

This is very important.


(h) Press the Menu button

(i) Select Setting and help, and then press Enter 

(j) Select Settings 

(k) Select Remote Control

(l) Select Program Remote 

(m) Two options pop up, " Program TV" and  "Program Audio Device" 

THESE OPTIONS MAY VARY.

(n) Select the one you want to use 

(o) It's Done! Programming is completed, so follow the on screen instructions to intailize.


2. Using the Manual Method on how to program the DirecTV RC-73 

This is another method on how to program directv RC-73

Follow instructions (a-e) on the automatic method.
I'll drop it here too.

(a) Find your TV code:

You can do this by following the steps below.

Write the code somewhere like a piece of paper.

Wait until the green light flashes twice.

(h) when the light flashes release it and then a pop up will show on your screen asking you to enter a code for your Directv Ready TV


(I) Input that code you have written down.


And that's it!

The rest of the setup should be done without your efforts, but don't forget to plugin for desired component.
